About Dr. Hotz: A leading scholar in the economics of the family, applied econometrics and the evaluation of social programs, V. Joseph Hotz came to UCLA from the University of Chicago, where he wasa founding member of the Irving B. Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies and served as director of the university's Population Research Center. Dr. Hotz also serves as a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research and has served as a member of the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services' JOBS Evaluation Advisory Panel. He is currentlya n advisor to the California Department of Social Services. Dr. Hotz's extensive published work has included an examination of the relationship between the labor force participation and childbearing patterns of married women in the United States and Sweden. He has also written on methods for assessing the impacts of job training programs authorized by the Job Training Partnership Act and in other contexts. His most recent work has focused on estimating the costs and consequences of teenage childbearing in the United States. His findings, which contradict previous estimates of the adverse consequences of teenage childbearing, have received substantial attention in the press and the scholarly community. Professor Hotz has just begun a national study of the effects of state-level child care regulations on the types of child care used by parents and on the cognitive and social development of their children. |
