About Dr. Bagasao:

Dr. Paula Y. Bagasao is the Associate Director at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, responsible for the Center’s overall communications and research dissemination strategies and activities including media, Web, and marketing as well as publications, community relations and other health policy research dissemination activities. While providing leadership in these areas for the Center, she also leads the communications strategic planning as well as implementation for the Center’s largest project the California Heath Interview Survey (CHIS), the largest health interview survey in the nation. The Center and the CHIS project serve multiple audiences. In addition to researchers, they include community-based organizations, counties, policy makers, advocacy groups, and members of the media.

Prior to joining the Center, Dr. Bagasao served as the director for public and industry relations at MDvista.com, a Silicon Valley telemedicine company. From 1993-1999, she served in the Clinton-Gore Administration, first in the White House and then at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as a senior policy advisor. She has several other key research, policy, and program development positions at The College Board, the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the American Association for Higher Education (AHHE), and the National Institute for Education (NIE) of the U.S. Department of Education, among others.

Besides her work in public health research and policy, Dr. Bagasao continues her work in the areas of information communication technology and society and social disparities through research, policy dialogue and publishing. She sits on the boards of the League of Women Voters, Los Angeles; the League of Women Voters Education Fund; the Filipino American History Museum, among others. She serves as an advisor to the World Association of Former United Nations Interns and Fellows. Dr. Bagasao was born in Los Angeles and earned her PhD from UCLA.
