$1000 Fellowship for Sociology Majors Interested In Relationship Formation
The California Quality of Life Survey examines mental health disorders in the diverse populations that exist in the state of California. 
This survey, with over 2,000 respondents from the various racial/ethnic groups and sexual minorities (LGB), contains data on mental health disorders, discrimination, hate crimes and a variety of other variables.  We are interested in examining the association between types of relationship statuses (married, cohabitating, single) and various mental health issues such as social support, mental health disorders, race/ethnicity or sexual orientation. We are looking for an undergraduate sociology major with experience in the quantitative analyses of data, who has worked with SAS or SPSS, has writing skills and is interested in joining a research team examining mental health and relationships.

Computer Assistant
The UCLA Center for Research, Education, Training and Strategic Communication on Minority Health Disparities is looking for a computer assistant.  Individual will work on maintenance of computers, installation and trouble shooting of software and hardware problems on PC.  Will assist in data transfer from print to scanned files, from floppy disks to CD’s, from slides to files, assist in gathering data for purchases, and input data.  Must have advanced skills in Word in order to set up manuscript tables, expertise in the use of spreadsheets, advanced skills in PowerPoint for presentation development, strong skills in web development for webpage construction and experience in the production of graphics.

Qualifications:   

Demonstrated experience in web, internet and word processing programs.  Must be detailed-oriented, have ability to work independently with instructions and excellent written and oral communication skills.  Experience working with data preferred but not required.  Advanced PC skills in the use of Excel, MS Office (particularly Word, FrontPage), experience in UNIX environment a plus.  Ability to prioritize and handle short lead times for diverse activities with frequent interruptions.

Lab Helper
This position is in the Center for Minority Health Disparities. The duties include the oversight and responsibility of the Minority Health Disparities lecture series and all other conferences and events produced by the Center. Must have good organizational and administrative skills, experience with booking travel, hotels and with helping individual organize their trip to UCLA. Must have very good communication skills. Any other health experience and background will be a plus.
 

Qualifications:  Must be self-starter and detail oriented.  Must have good writing and communication skills and be able to provide names of three references. Must have advanced PC skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Access and Excel).

Finance Position (Available for both work-study and non-work-study)
The UCLA Center for Research, Training and Strategic Communication on Minority Health Disparities is looking for an applicant experienced with financial transactions for a part-time position..  Prefer experience UCLA contracts and grants and financial procedures.   Position will include preparation of financial reimbursements, some data analysis and use of the advanced features of Microsoft Excel and Access.

 

Qualifications: Individual must have experience with financial transactions.  Prefer a working knowledge of UCLA contracts and grants procedures, reimbursement procedures for travel, parking, and invoices for services and honorariums. Applicant should be detail oriented and a self-starter, with excellent oral and written communication skills.  Must be extremely responsible and able to work with sensitive and confidential materials.   Must have experience in accounting or grant management. Must be able to use advanced features of Microsoft Excel and Access, be able to design spreadsheets and calculate means, median and mode of data. Please provide the name of 3 references.

Administrative Assistant
 

The UCLA Center for Research, Education, Training and Strategic Communication on Minority Health Disparities is currently seeking an experienced Administrative Assistant to serve both the Center and the Center’s director in a variety of capacities. Responsibilities will include coordination of travel, catering, communications, advertising and paperwork for events hosted by the Center.  Responsibilities may also include maintaining an inventory of supplies, drafting and editing correspondence, scheduling and maintaining the calendar of the Center director, and basic clerical duties.

 

Qualifications

Must have demonstrable skills using advanced features of Microsoft Word (formatting documents, creating tables, etc.).  Must be independent, with good oral and written English communication skills and be extremely responsible.  Must have web design experience (familiarity with Microsoft FrontPage is highly desired).  Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.  Must be highly organized and capable of self-managing tasks with frequent interruptions and deadlines.   Must be extremely professional and capable of working with a diverse group of people (students, professors, campus officials, service providers).  Advanced student has opportunity for long term job.
